Events in December started with a party going to Charlwood WI Christmas meeting where we were given a splendid tea, wonderful raffle and great entertainment by the WIs on Golden Girls. President Stella Saker hosted the first meeting of the 2007 committee and former members starting with a glass of sherry and ending with tea and mince pies.
The following week 43 members and friends enjoyed a seasonal lunch at Rowfant House, putting us all in festive mood. Sadly, Christmas can bring sadness as well as joy. We learned of the death of long time member Betty Chelmick who we will remember for the beautiful cards which she made for members on their birthdays and other occasions. Our monthly meeting and Christmas tea was held in the very comfortable Delmar Morgan Hall. Fifty members came including Joanne Fergusson and Anne Green from Heatherley. Business was held over until the January meeting. The entertainment was provided by Mr. Kay with his two guitars. With songs and carols we all knew we could sing along with him most of the time. He also made us laugh a great deal with his stories and jokes. The competition for a homemade cracker was won by Angela Spindler and the flower of the month, a Camellia by Ethel Snelling. Members had been asked to bring a small gift to the meeting so everyone went home with a gift. The afternoon ended with Stella wishing everyone a happy Christmas and a reminder that we will be back in the Village Hall in 2007 at 2 p.m. on the third Thursday in the month. Visitors and new members always welcome. January 18th speaker Mr. Hyde on Old Fountain Pens.
