Our hardworking committee have kept us busy and well entertained. In September a party enjoyed a trip on the Bluebell Railway including fish and chips. Help at the Junior School with knitting and sewing classes resumed. Back in the Village Hall for our monthly meeting, Mr. Keemar gave us a talk about his service with the Special Constabulary in the Crawley area. Nominations for next year’s committee were handed in. A few days later we were all saddened by the news of Marinne Claydon’s death. She was one of our founder members and Treasurer of Border Group for over 30 years. She will be greatly missed for her great knowledge of WI which she was passionate about and our singing of Jerusalem will not be the same without her at the piano. In October we were joined by members of the Evening WI for a fish and chip lunch followed by games of Bingo to raise money for a donation for the new floor in the Village Hall. After the President opened our October meeting Mavis Williamson gave a eulogy in memory of Marinne. Being a long time friend she spoke of her many interests, her personality and her involvement with Church, clubs and organisations within the village over the years. A truly remarkable lady. A collection for Breast Cancer will be made by both WIs. Mrs. Bradford paid us a return visit with ‘Decorate for Christmas’, showing us how to make wreaths, posies and other arrangements with mainly materials from the garden and countryside to make effective and low cost table decorations which can be made well in advance. Several members went to the group meeting hosted by the Evening WI. The month ended with a party of 20 going to the Hawth to see Gigi performed by Crawley Operatic. A wonderful show with so many colourful costumes and lots of scenery changes. We will be looking forward to their Hello Dolly next Spring. The December meeting on Thrusday 21st December at 2 p.m. will be the members Christmas Party with Mr. Kay and his guitar. PLEASE NOTE THIS WILL BE IN THE DELMAR MORGAN HALL The next meeting in the Village Hall will be on Thursday 18th January 2007 at 2 pm when Mr. Hyde will return to talk about his collection of old fountain pens. |
