The resignation of Councillor James Worsley from the Conservative group on the District Council and the implications to the political balance of the Council. Copthorne will continue t o oppose any significant housing developments. Dates of the next meetings and how to get involved.

The resignation of Councillor James Worsley from the Conservative group on the District Council means that the composition of the Council is now Conservatives 27, Liberal Democrats 24, Labour 2 and Independent 1. At the Council meeting on October 10th therefore a revised composition of committees was agreed to maintain the political balance on Committees in direct proportion to each group’s overall representation on the Council, as required by legislation. While this means that most committees are very evenly balanced between Conservatives and Liberal Democrats, the Chairmanships have not changed and the Conservatives, as the largest group, still hold all the cabinet positions. There will be no change in current policies and I have assurances that Copthorne’s fight to oppose any significant housing developments in and next to the village is fully supported by the District Council.

The next meetings of the Northern Area planning committee are December 14th, January 11th and February 8th.  Meetings are held at The Ark, Turners Hill, beginning at 7 p.m. Speakers for or against applications must register by 6:30 p.m. at the venue and each speaker is allowed a maximum of two minutes to address the committee. All planning applications are assigned to a specific planning officer. If you wish to object to or support a particular application, please do so in writing, quoting the application reference number, e.g. WP/06/01234/FUL, to the assigned officer (Planning Dept), MSDC, Oaklands, Oaklands Road, Haywards Heath, W. Sussex RH16 1SS.

My fellow District Councillor, Martin Forde, and I wish you all a very happy Christmas and a safe and successful New Year.

Mike Livesey, District Councillor, Copthorne and Worth ward.
