| Welcome to St. John's Copthorne |
![]() St. John’s is an Anglican (Church of England) Parish Church, the most northerly church in Sussex, or in the Chichester Diocese. St. John’s has a congregation of around 150, with two main services on a Sunday at 9am and at 10.30am, with a breakfast of Coffee & Croissants in between. We have regular contact with over 400 in the community, and at major festivals we are often standing room only. Being a village church means we have a responsibility to provide a variety of worship styles which are accessible to as wide a section of the local population as possible. The teaching and ministry comes from an open evangelical base; - we are happy to be thought by some to be rather ‘free church’, and by others to be rather ‘high’. There is a lively All Age Worship (Family Service) at 10.30am usually on the first Sunday of the month, with one of the Sunday Clubs (the Sunday School groups) being involved in leading. We also have Baptisms during this service once a month. Most of our 9am services are based around Holy Communion, the 10.30s are less frequently communion, and more informal in style. Our Youth Group, YoYo, (You're Only Young Once) takes place on the Sunday evenings at 6.30pm. There is also a mid-week Holy Communion on Wednesdays at 10.30am. Morning Prayer is said in church at 9am during the week. The teaching within the services is augmented by the work of the home-groups, which members of the congregation are encouraged to join. We have a vibrant selection of children's and youth groups that cater from the newly born to those at university. There is also the St John's Sunshine PreSchool, supported by the Church, that is one of the most sought after groups in the area, with a long waiting list to show the level of local (and not just church) interest. |
